A Great Business Strategy Means Nothing Unless You Also Have *This*

Hey! 😓

I’m supposed to be coming to your inbox fresh from the Rockies, with the special kind of glow in my cheeks and pep in my step that comes from skiing at high-altitude.

That Banff lustre, y’know?

Instead I’m coming to you fresh from eight days on my couch, where I have been laying for so long it feels like I’m growing roots here. Instead of loading my skis into a gondola at 9am last week, leaving it all on the mountain, and finishing the day sipping a lavender mojito at 4pm while gazing out onto the turquoise blue waters of Lake Louise, a mini-sandwich in hand…

…it’s been mostly Cool Ranch Doritos and back-to-back episodes of Love Is Blind until my computer prompts me, “Are you still watching?”

“YES, I’M STILL WATCHING. I’M AS CONFUSED ABOUT IT AS YOU ARE, NETFLIX! I HATE EVERYONE ON THIS SHOW!!!!”

I’m mad as heck it worked out this way but, as I sit down to write this on Monday morning, I’m also reminding myself that this time off was planned, and getting sick did not put me “behind.”

With two weeks to go before we start registration for The Girlboss Apology Tour, it feels like I should be more stressed than I am. In case you’ve never done a summit before — Holy God it’s a huge undertaking. Twenty-five emails, four landing pages, custom branding, fourteen interviews (all of which need editing!), three live events, countless pitches to speakers, and a lot of handholding helping them get their contracts signed, their headshots submitted, their freebies organized, and more.

I dragged my butt off the couch to impart one simple lesson today. (I’m going straight back after.)

It’s not enough to have a good business strategy; You also need a deeper vision that will keep you going when all you can see are obstacles and work, work, work.

The model isn’t important.

Summits and bundles can work.

High-ticket coaching can work.

Low-ticket memberships can work.

DIY courses can work, and so can the cohort model.

But no matter what model you choose, there’s going to be a moment when it feels like it’s too much work, the risk is too great, and the likelihood of failure too high. When that time comes, that’s when you cleave to your vision. Your vision is what will bring you back to your to-do list, to check off the next thing that needs to get done.

I’m cleaving to mine today, when what I really want to do is crawl under the covers with a box of tissues. But there’s work to be done, and I have a huge vision for The Girlboss Apology Tour. I can’t wait to share the sign-up page with you in TWO SHORT WEEKS!

So excuse me while I get back to it.

XO,
Tarzan
