Outtakes from a mastermind retreat in Tuscany

COMING SOON

If you’re curious what it’s like to work with Tarzan, we’ll be hosting an open house on June 18 @ 2pm ET, where you’ll be able to hear about our upcoming programs, including The School of Consent-Based Business, and the two masterminds I run.

This is a chance to experience consent-based marketing in real-time, see what transparency looks like, and practice making thoughtful purchasing decisions instead of simply reacting to what lands in your inbox.

Psst…the audio version of this email has some pretty cool behind-the-scenes of my email-writing process.

Hey!

I’ve just returned from leading a business retreat in Italy.

I tried unsuccessfully to knock out a quick email about why I don’t believe AI is a threat to my job, and maybe not yours either. I need to tussle with that topic a little longer. Turning to Claude to finish my argument didn’t help. I’m going to sit on it for a week and see what insights emerge.

In the meantime, I’m integrating everything we experienced on retreat last week, and pulling out the lessons. My mastermind Power is a place to say things out loud that you can’t say anywhere else, and retreats are often where we deal with the gritty stuff that there’s no space for in the day to day running of a business. I grew about ten sizes as a leader and facilitator last week.

By far the most repeated phrase I heard was, paraphrasing here, “I felt safe enough to show up as my full self.” That makes me proud, especially knowing that a big reason people are attracted to my work is because I show up as my full self. Anyone who spends time with me will agree that it rubs off, and that is not by accident.

I’m also learning that, as a leader, the more you’re able to hold space for all the beauty and the messiness of being human, the more time it takes to rest and integrate after. I’m spending time debriefing with one of my mentors in facilitation, Sophia Apostol, taking long forest walks with my mom’s dog, and recalibrating who I am after this experience, and who we are as a group.

Retreat time is an altered state experience. That’s why this time is necessary. It’s also why I don’t sell immediately after, or ask anyone to renew for the year right away, even though I would likely have a 100% renewal rate if I did that. Another example of a subtle but critical consent-based strategy.

Okay, I have to go nap now.

I’m giving myself the gift of writing this short email, instead of trying to come up with something groundbreaking.

If you’re curious whether or not you might be a fit for Power (this is last year’s offer; I’ll definitely make some changes to it), hit “reply” and say hello. I’d love to know about your business — What’s hard and what’s easy? Where are you now and where do you want to go?

‘Till next week,

Tarzan

💑 If you help people for a living, you’re likely carrying a lot right now. (See the email I just wrote!) Deeply Human Together is a free 90-minute gathering that will show you how to stay present without absorbing it all and taking everything on as yours to fix/solve. You’ll leave with a simple, practical shift you can use immediately. I’m so glad to recommend Annemiek. Spaces like this matter—where you’re not being asked to perform or figure things out, just given room to come back to yourself, with someone who knows how to hold that well. Claim your place here → (sponsored link)

🤖 That email I wrote about AI? I recommended Gemma Bonham Carter’s free AI Unlocked Summit that starts today, and Sandra Booker aka “the Spock to my Captain Kirk” is a speaker. I know there will be loads of golden nuggets in this series. (affiliate link)
